Hello All,

My name is Bill and I just joined the forum. I have not built a Kart before, ... but some things very similar in my profession. I have been a Model Maker/Prototype Builder for the last 20 years. I bought the plans for the Arachnid a couple days ago and the plans are pretty straight forward and well done, and easy enough to construct. I just have a couple of questions before I start planing the items needed for the build.

1). What is the weight of the cart as built per plans, with out the engine?

2). Can the plans be scaled up slightly for a larger engine such as 1,000 - 1,300cc?

3). Since the sprocket is so low to the ground (from what I see in the sales video), ... has anyone tried to have the large sprocket on a pre-axle above the main axle and runs a smaller 1:1 sprockets to turn the main axle, thus eliminating a sprocket almost dragging on the ground?

4). How easy would this be to convert it to 4 wheel independent suspension?

5). Possibilities for 4 wheel drive?

Thanks
Bill

hay,
any one else building a scorpion go kart? i should be finishing the frame sometime this week. im adding a tc and am using a 6hp robin subaru engine instead of the 6.5 tech with cc. you can look at my build here http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=8501 anyway was just wondering if any one else was building the scorpion because i didnt see a scorpion thread. and for robert the parts list deosnt include things like throttel cable, steering wheel hub and extra brake line, also electric scooter parts.com doesnt sell 6 7/8" long shocks anymore, thanks for the plans though there great and include a nice description of every peice of metal, ill be shure to send you pics via email when im done. if anyone one has questions or would like to comment on my project ill probably respond faster on the above link. good luck with your scorpion!

p.s hi siver grizz, lol

I sent an email to you a few days back. I purchased Recluse plans a few months ago, but a hard drive crash wiped out my electronic copies of the plans and free downloads that are available with plan purchase.

Can you let me know what I need to do to be able to get copies for my archive? You can reach me at the email address in my user profile if you prefer.

I noticed on the plans the weldment parts and some other parts have assigned parts numbers. Are those from a particular manufacturer or do you have a recommended source to buy those parts. Unfortunately your plans are vague about those prefab parts and their exact specifications. What would be my best resource to find those parts online?

robin engine (found a good deal). Can someone tell me how fast the kart will go, I know it has alot to do with gearing etc. But generally speaking-- how fsat might this thing go. I'm starting to think I may need to limit the throttle.

Hello everyone. I've started planning the build of an Arachnid, but I'm unsure of what size engine to go with. Torque converters seem a little thin on the ground and the ones I have found are unsuitable for engines over 8hp. I was hoping to go for a 13hp unit with electric start and a centrifical clutch. So do I go with a smaller engine with a torque converter or a larger engine with a centrifical clutch? Or is 13hp way too much?
