Hello everyone. I've started planning the build of an Arachnid, but I'm unsure of what size engine to go with. Torque converters seem a little thin on the ground and the ones I have found are unsuitable for engines over 8hp. I was hoping to go for a 13hp unit with electric start and a centrifical clutch. So do I go with a smaller engine with a torque converter or a larger engine with a centrifical clutch? Or is 13hp way too much?
What size engine for an Arachnid?

Hi If your useing a centrifucal clutch you can only use upto 15"TYRES and verry low gearing.
A t/converter or wet-clutch-gearbox would be the better suited for off roading and engine size the bigger the better we use only gx 390 with wet-clutches if you can get hould of one.Posted 5 months ago # -
Thanks Ray. Finding an engine is easy but finding a gearbox is impossible. I have been trawling through ebay but I can't find any result for a wet-clutch. What else are these things called so I can Google it or do you have a link to a supplier? Thanks.

Hi thay are honda 1/2 reduction centrifugal clutch-r-type,
If your in the UK there is two types 1 for gx 160-200hp and other for gx 240-270-390hp ,
geminikarts.co.uk we use for some of the parts on our buggys we build, but thay only do the t/converters ect,and we dont use then only wet-clutches,
I will have a look in work shop to se if ive got a spair one for your engine,

Nice one Ray, I know what I'm looking for now. I would like to go for the larger size of engine idealy the GX390, if you happened to have a gearbox suitable that would be fantstic. The geminikarts site is very good and not too far from me so I will be going to see them in the very near future. Thanks again for your help.
