   Hello All,

   My name is Bill and I just joined the forum. I have not built a Kart before, ... but some things very similar in my profession. I have been a Model Maker/Prototype Builder for the last 20 years. I bought the plans for the Arachnid a couple days ago and the plans are pretty straight forward and well done, and easy enough to construct. I just have a couple of questions before I start planing the items needed for the build.

   1). What is the weight of the cart as built per plans, with out the engine?

   2). Can the plans be scaled up slightly for a larger engine such as 1,000 - 1,300cc?

   3). Since the sprocket is so low to the ground (from what I see in the sales video), ... has anyone tried to have the large sprocket on a pre-axle above the main axle and runs a smaller 1:1 sprockets to turn the main axle, thus eliminating a sprocket almost dragging on the ground?

   4). How easy would this be to convert it to 4 wheel independent suspension?

   5). Possibilities for 4 wheel drive?

   Bill,

   Looks like you are probably a bit more advanced in what your looking for than I am. I designed these to be easy to build and less expensive.

   I never have put any of the karts on a scale. So I dont really know the answer to the weight. I can move it around pretty easy myself and load it into a truck... LOL

   The plans are just that... Just a good starting place for somebody that wants a project. I am sure you can retro-fit the plans to fit whatever motor you have on hand. Being a prototyper (is that a word?) I am sure it wouldnt be a problem for you.

   yes the sprocket is close but I really havent had any problems with it. We dont really go rock climbing with the karts or anything exptreme, so we just havent run into any problems with that. The second sprocket is a good idea but once again my goal has always been to keep costs down for those that might not have the funds to get crazy with the design. Surely a possibility.

   If you are wanting independent suspension and 4 wheel drive you might want to look at getting plans for a desert kart or rail buggy. Desert karts has some great plans.

   A 4 wheeler might better suited for your needs... LOL
