I just purchased the plans for the Tarnatula, I'm going to make two Carts one for each of my kids. we would like to race them against each other and notice we have to place rails and bumper around the wheels; Do you recommend any specific bumper size? How fasted does the 6hp engine go and can we go any bigger?

Yes you can go really as big as you want if you want to redesign the motor position. You might need to upscale the shocks as well. But up to about a 10 should fit just fine. Just make sure to watch the pivot range and that your not hitting the motor on the frame rail behind the seat.
As for bumpers... Just fabricate what you need... I havent seen anybody put bumpers on so I have no idea as to what size to tell you. Just give yourself room for steering and such and make sure a foot cant get caught between moving parts and the frame.
Please send us pictures of your progress.

With a 10 hp engine would you use a Centrifical Clutch or Torque converter?
I only mention the bumpers do to knowing the street racer on gokarts. They told me that you can ride right over a guy from the rear or damage your front end if you hit. I'll send pictures

No I would for sure to a Torque Converter with a 10HP. If budget is an issue then you can try a CC but make sure its a hefty one.

I just saw the post about the taranchula costing about $500 cheaper than the Arachnid, why is the taranchula that much cheaper? They seem very similar so what causes such a huge difference in cost?

where did everyone get their parts, can i get them all in 1 kit

ohyeah123,
Depending on what kind of quality you are going for on the parts the Tarantula can cost up to 1200 but can be done for 800 if you search and use metal hardware instead of aluminum.
Somebody said 500... I think that is a bit low. the motor will be 250-300 then all the hardware will for sure put you up over 500 even with cheap parts.

rocketsci13,
There are resoureces in the back of the plans for locations to get parts. A simple search on Google for go kart parts will bring up a ton of companies that sell all the parts. We use BMI karts quite a bit.
