I'm intrested in the recluse but I have some questions.
How hard is it to build?
Is there any welding involved?
What engine do you recommend for 30-50mph?
I'm 5'2, 106 lbs..Hows the fit for me? Would I need to modify it?
Thanks!!

Well... if its hard to build depends on your skill level. But it is fairly straight forward.
Yes tons of welding.
I wouldnt recomend going much over 35 in the recluse. If you are wanting to go 50mph maybe you should look at a shifter kart. Our karts are built more for just having fun.
Yes you might want to stretch it a bit, but the kart is designed to be easily adjust for your size during the buildins stages.

Could I bolt the frame instead of welding?
(thanks for the info btw)

no not really an option... You would have to weld things to even bolt it together...

I bought my plans a few days ago and have been looking them over and checking on prices for the various parts. I have a few questions, I'm sorry if they seem random.
(1) I will be using the kart completely offroad and its probably going to get muddy so i'd like to use a knobby tire, bmikarts.com sells 145/70-6 Carlisle Badlands Knobby Tire & Rim 14" for front and rear. Will this tire/wheel combo work for the kart? Are they to tall should I stick with something lower? With a 6.5HP engine will there be enough power to turn the wheels at a moderately fast speed?
(2) Are the locking collars suppose to be set off the bearing flangettes just a tad so they don't rub, is that where the locking collars go, would I need locking collars on the backside of the wheels if I used the wheels mentioned above?
(3) Can I get any more information about how to seup the throttle linkage?
(4) Will an 11" tie rod be long enough?
(5) The parts list includes a Shock Mounting Tab, is this a miss print or did I overlook something in the plans?
(6) I was wanting to use a 6" band style drum brake. Besides the drum, the drum hub and the band what linkage and/or brackets would be necessary for this setup?
Thanks for the plans, I am looking forward to getting started.

I am 6 foot tall, i think that looking at the plans for the rectuse i will need to extend the base frame from 27" to 35" or there abouts to fit comfortably.
Does this sound right?

Hello there dwillia8...
Yes the Recluse is designed to be very easy to extend. You should have no problems... Just make sure to add in a support between the rails to support the extra length.

what suggestions do you have for making it into a two seater?
Posted 5 months ago # -
Its kind of a hard one to do... We messed around with that for a while and its just a small kart for two people. But if you are really into it just simply add in the width you need for another seat to all the cross members and such
