My 9yo son is 4ft 6inches tall and weighs about 60lbs. Since we have
never built a go-kart before, which model do you recommend?Answer from customer service:
The Recluse would be great for that size.Posted 8 months ago # -

Hi, I wanted to build a cart with my 10-year old son (4'10"; 85 lbs). We have been looking at the material and videos on you site. He likes the recluse and the tarantula best. For someone with average mechanical skills (no expertise but willing to get hands dirty and try new things), and a 10+ year old; which model(s) do you recommend?
Thanks, JimPosted 7 months ago # -
Well the Recluse will be a bit easier and it is our most popular. Its also a bit cheaper to build. But the Tarantula is something he could ride for a long time. The Tarantula out in our workshop here is the one I usually take out for fun. Its a really fun kart and will last him quite awhile. The Blackwidow is also a good starter kart and one he can grow into. Hope this helps...

What do the upper and lower steering blocks do?

Hi im a student that is looking to build the arachnid for my auto shop class. what is the general price to build one of these carts?
Posted 5 months ago # -
I recently purchased a set of blackwidow plans, I havent recieved them yet through download or anything. Can they be emailed or reset to download?

sabaseball985,
These blocks will be what holds your steering shaft.

larktimothy,
The Arachnid is probably the most expensive kart to build. It can be done cheaper if you can find parts used or build a lot of your extras from scratch. But it will run about 1200 - 1500 if you use all the parts we have listed.

Elliott,
When you buy the plans an email is sent to the same email you used to purchase the plans with. Sometimes that email will go into your junk folder depending on your settings. That email includes a link to download the plans. If you havent received them yet just send me an email with your reciept number and the email you used to buy the plans and I will reset your download. But make sure and look for it in your junk folder after I do that.

The Arachnid can be one of the most expensive if you use all good hardware. I would guess anywhere from 800 - 1500 depending on how fancy you want to make it...

I just downloaded the Itzy Bitzy plans for my 6-yr old. I'm pretty handy but building karts is all new to me. Now that I see the cost of parts (and I don't know what shipping will be yet), isn't it quite a bit cheaper to just buy a kart? I know, I know...I wouldn't get the fun of building it and spending time with my son, but it seems like it will take $700-$800 just to build this basic model (based on MBI parts list you provided). Your thoughts?

Hey i am new to building go-karts and was wondering from all of your oppionions...out of all the go-karts that are available from this site, which one should i build if im looking for a fun, fast, street go-kart?? Would love to hear some feedback please...

tommybiz,
You are correct! LOL Its cheaper to buy a kart now days than build one. I cant really argue that point. But like you said, for me its all about building it and the time with my son and the hobby of it. Also alot of these cheap karts will not stand up to to much fun. The Itzy Bitzy shouldnt be that much. I think it runs about 500 to build.
but please note IT IS TINY... I built it when my son was about 5 and he was a small 5. so you might want to just buy one or pick a bigger model.

Nick,
The Tarantula is a great combination of street and off-raod. Its big enough for an adult but still a good size for a child to grow into. Its pretty fast and handles any conditions pretty well. Its also pretty easy to build.
