In this video, we at Spidercarts walk you through assembling the rear axle and drivetrain components of the go-kart. We start by installing the sprocket hub and sprocket assembly on the right side, ensuring the sprocket is positioned closest to the motor. The bearing is then sandwiched between the bearing brackets, with set screws placed facing out. We keep the screws loose for now to allow the axle to rotate as needed.
Next, we align the axle, pushing it through while adjusting the sprocket hub into place. We measure the axle’s position on both sides to ensure it’s correctly aligned and then tighten the set screws to secure the bearing in place. The sprocket and brake disc are left loose for future adjustments when the motor and chain are mounted.
After attaching the brake caliper and ensuring it moves freely, we focus on the rear hubs, locking them in place with a keyway and collar. The motor is then mounted, and any necessary modifications are made for proper fitment. For this build, we use a 6.5 HP motor, which required removing the gas tank and creating a custom bracket to fit it properly.
Once the motor is in place, we attach the centrifugal clutch and sprocket, ensuring the chain lines up correctly. We use a chain breaker tool to adjust the chain’s length, removing links as necessary. The chain is then connected using a master link and secured with a clip. Finally, we check the alignment and ensure everything is tight and functioning, preparing the go-kart for the next steps in the assembly.
